KCENIA KOUTORJEVSKI

MEZZO - SOPRANO

ABOUT

Kcenia Koutorjevski is a young mezzo-soprano praised for her “rich vocal tones” (The Beach Metro) who was born and raised in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia. She has been seen performing roles such as Dorabella in Così Fan Tutte (UofT Opera, 2025), Ruggierio in Alcina, (UWO Opera 2021), Julius Caesar in Julius Caesar (SOLT 2023), Meg Page in Falstaff (UWO Opera 2022) and Mme. de la Haltière in Cendrillon. (UofT Opera, 2024).  Since pursuing her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at Western University (graduated 2023), Kcenia’s love for singing only grew further.  She was the recipient of the London Opera Guild Scholarship award in 2021, the Adrianne Pieczonka Award for Vocal Excellence in 2022, and recently a recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. (2024) Currently, Kcenia takes great pleasure studying at the University of Toronto’s intensive opera program with Elizabeth McDonald, where she will receive her Master’s Degree in Opera in Spring 2025. Most recently, Kcenia also joined the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity as Production Assistant while participating in the program. This experience was immensely transformative and fostered a strong affinity for new music for Kcenia.  In addition to performing, Kcenia also enjoys teaching private piano and voice lessons in Toronto, which she finds to be educational and exciting.  According to her mother, she "sang before she could speak" and her parents seldom worried about losing her as a child, since she bore a "portable siren" and would simply sing out if lost. She shares a passion for both voice and piano since childhood, having completed the Royal Conservatory's ARCT program in piano performance in 2019. Soon after, she found that her love for conveying music through words gripped her - and thus, her love of opera was born. Kcenia believes deeply in the power of music to educate, connect, and inspire. As an artist, she believes it is the responsibility of the upcoming generation of performers to push the boundaries of music accessibility and to reimagine music's role in our society. She hopes to help bridge the distance between performers and audiences as opera becomes a more shared experience and is thrilled to be a part of  reimagining the opera scene in our society.
